School Shop Solutions

A complete brochure project bringing together concept, copy, illustration, photography and layout, later carried through into the company website.

The brief

School Shop Solutions supplied tailored schoolwear and wanted a brochure that reflected the quality and attention to detail of the service they provided.

Rather than producing a conventional product catalogue, the aim was to create something with a more considered, editorial feel — classic without feeling old-fashioned, and practical enough to communicate a lot of information clearly.

The work

This was one of those projects where I was involved in almost every element.

I developed the overall concept, wrote the copy, created the illustrations and designed the brochure from cover to cover. Photography was the only element brought in externally, and the finished images were worked into a deliberately restrained visual style using deep heritage colours, strong blocks of colour and simple line drawings.

The brochure mixed company story, practical information and product detail, so the challenge was giving quite different types of content a consistent look and an easy rhythm from page to page.

The visual approach was later carried across to the company website, helping the print and digital material feel like parts of the same business.

The outcome

The finished brochure is still a piece of work I’m particularly pleased with because it was such a complete project.

Rather than being handed finished copy, imagery and a set format to assemble, I was able to shape the whole thing — from the tone of voice and visual direction through to the smallest typographic details.

The result was a brochure with its own character: tailored, confident and deliberately different from the more conventional schoolwear catalogues around at the time.
